A.I.-Generated Child Sexual Abuse Material May Overwhelm Tip Line
A report by Stanford University’s Internet Observatory warns that authorities are being overwhelmed by a flood of child sexual abuse material created using artificial intelligence (AI). The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, responsible for coordinating efforts to combat online child sexual abuse, lacks the necessary resources to address this growing threat. The organization’s CyberTipline, which receives reports on child sexual abuse material, struggles to keep up with the volume due to incomplete or inaccurate tips. As AI technology advances, the report predicts that identifying real children in need of rescue will become even more challenging for law enforcement. Lawmakers are already taking action to combat the issue, seeking to make AI-generated explicit content illegal.
